The New York Rangers have unveiled their Centennial jersey - a lighter blue throwback that nods to 1926 while celebrating 100 years of Blueshirts hockey.

The New York Rangers' centennial celebrations continue as the team has officially unveiled a new special centennial jersey, encapsulating the spirit of 100 years of Rangers hockey. The jerseys will be worn for the eight games the Rangers have theme nights planned for their centennial season.

As they are the Rangers, they're marking it pretty much the same way they'd mark any event - whether it be Stadium Series, Winter Classic, or 100th anniversary  - a throwback-inspired set with the team name laid out diagonally.

This particular set, appropriately enough, closely resembles the Rangers' inaugural season uniforms from 1926-27. A blue sweater with red and off-white striping, and "RANGERS" down the front in single-colour off-white. The collar is the same off-white with embellishments added to make it appear more like materials used in the 1920s. Player names and numbers match the colours and style of the team name down the front.

The Ragners' 100th anniversary logo is placed on the left shoulder, and an advertisement for Mark Messier's "Game 7" sports entertainment venture is on the other.

The blue hem loop inside the back of the jersey features a red apple with a "100" on it; the inside back collar is a neat tribute to the club's original Madison Square Garden home, with a design based on the marquee outside that arena and the date of their first game, November 16, 1926. 

Typography featured down the front of the uniform evolved in the 1940s, with the sans serif letters giving way to italicized serifs in 1941-42, and the now-familiar drop shadow being added the following year.

Jersey Colors :This blue is taken from the original 1926 shield.Deep red and rich cream accents reflect the passage of time.

Inside Collar :Tucked in the trim is the 1926 Garden Marquee commemorating the date of our first game.

Lettering :The iconic stairstep "RANGERS" is inspired by the singgle - color font of the original 1926 Jersey .

Piping :A mainstay of the franchise takes its place as a defining feature on the sleeves and waist.
